Infertility

Infertility is a problem that many couples currently face. On average, 1 out of every 7 couples seeking children suffer from infertility. When couples decide to have a child, infertility is a stressing matter that troubles them.

Our medical team tries to timely uncover potential causes of infertility and offer the appropriate medical solution to infertile couples.

The same as couples are involved in the conception of a child, the causes of infertility also stem from them.

In all, causes of infertility are distributed into the following categories:

  1. Infertility in women
  2. Infertility in men
  3. Unknown causes

Infertility in women

Infertility in women has many causes according to the organ involved, so our specialists perform various tests and examinations so that the cause of infertility is identified. The diagnostic steps are as follows:

  1. Pelvic examination (done by our obstetrician and midwife)
  2. Ovarian and uterine ultrasound
  3. Hysterosalpingography (x-ray of uterus and fallopian tubes)
  4. Routine lab tests

According to the history taken and the physical exam performed the presence of any abnormal finding (such as a cyst, mass, fibroma, or fallopian tube obstruction)  in the uterus, ovaries, or fallopian tubes is identified. The proper function of organs and hormone secretion is also evaluated and reported.

Infertility in men

Diagnosing infertility in men is usually easier and requires less time compared to women. It would be best to start by inspecting for causes of infertility in men before addressing other possible problems causing a couples’ infertility.

Diagnostic tests required in mens infertility are as follows:

  1. Analysis of sperm morphology, motility, and count (Spermogram)
  2. Routine hormone tests

If the spermogram done shows any abnormal findings the patient is referred to a mens infertility specialist so that the necessary urologic investigations, such as more advanced tests and physical examinations, are completed.

Unknown causes

In some cases both the man and woman are normal and suffer from no apparent problem. In such cases further testing and consultations with other specialties is required.

How we work

First, the diagnostic investigations explained above are completed for the couple. According to your personal preferences, and taking into consideration the time limitations that you might have, these diagnostic investigations can either be performed in Iran or in other countries. It is to be noted that these investigations, whether done in Iran or in other countries, are set to be done in centers that comply with our standards for quality and accuracy.

After analyzing the results of the lab tests, ultrasound, and hysterosalpingography, it is possible that some cases require diagnostic and therapeutic surgical procedures (eg. laparoscopy and hysteroscopy in women, testicular biopsy, varicocele surgery, and cystoscopy in men.)

After collecting and analyzing the findings of the tests performed the type of treatment to be implemented is decided. The treatment options include medical (non-invasive) treatment, IVF (in-vitro fertilization), and IUI (intra-uterine insemination).

What is IUI?

In IUI, ovulation is induced and then sperm is injected into the uterus.

What is IVF?

IVF is fertilization that is done inside the lab. After ovulation induction is completed, ova is extracted from the ovaries under general anesthesia. Sperm taken from the man is then injected into the ovum in the laboratory. The newly formed zygote is then kept in the lab for 2 to days before getting re-implanted into the uterus

Fertility-assistance methods for couples that don’t suffer from infertility!?

In some cases, couples don’t suffer from infertility but aren’t able to give birth to healthy children due to certain genetic and familial diseases. In such cases, genetically healthy embryos are selected using methods like PGS and PGD and implanted in the mother’s womb.

Sometimes couples prefer to bear a child of certain gender and that preference can be attained using the PGD method.
